How much does the Strutt ev¹c AI powerchair cost?

If you’ve seen the Strutt EV1C Powerchair online, you’ve probably noticed it doesn’t look like any other powerchair. It has sensors, cameras, a touchscreen and an app. So it’s natural to wonder what all that costs, and whether you’d actually use it enough to make it worth paying for.

We’ve been helping people choose powerchairs since 1977, and price is always one of the first questions we’re asked. Here’s an honest breakdown of what the EV1C costs, what changes the price, and who we think it’s good value for.

The short answer

The Strutt EV1C has a UK retail price of £5,199, excluding VAT. That’s the starting point before any accessories or extras.

What you get for £5,199

The EV1C is built for people who want to get out and about with less effort and more confidence. Here’s what’s included as standard:

  • Co-Pilot driving assistance. Sensors and cameras spot obstacles around you. The chair can steer around them, or slow and stop if there isn’t enough space.
  • Four-wheel independent suspension. A smoother ride on paving slabs, gravel paths and uneven ground.
  • A long-range battery. Up to 20 miles on a charge (or around 16 miles with the smart sensors switched on).
  • Up to 8mph top speed, with four slower speed levels for pavements and indoors.
  • A backup camera and touchscreen, so you can see behind you when reversing.
  • App control. Lock, unlock and move the chair from your phone, so it can come to you.
  • A fast charger. Around two hours to 80% and four hours to a full charge.
  • Five separate modules, so it can be taken apart to fit in a car boot.

What can change the price?

Battery choice

The standard 640Wh battery gives you the longest range, but it isn’t allowed on planes. If you travel by air, you’ll need the smaller 288Wh flight-approved battery. It’s worth factoring this in if holidays abroad are part of your plans.

Accessories

Optional extras are sold separately. These include an extended backrest, a push handle for a carer, a phone and cup holder, and rear and side storage. Most people don’t need all of them, so we’ll only suggest the ones that suit how you’ll use the chair.

Delivery, set-up and aftercare

A powerchair is only as good as the support behind it. When you compare prices, check what’s included: handover, set-up, adjustments and who you call if something goes wrong.

At Felgains, our nationwide aftersales support includes:

  • Ongoing product support and technical advice
  • Servicing and maintenance plans
  • Coordination of repairs across the UK
  • Access to genuine parts and approved technicians

Is the Strutt EV1C worth the money?

It depends on how you’ll use it. In our experience, the EV1C is good value if:

  • You get out and about every day and want help with crowded shops, busy pavements and tight spaces
  • You’d feel more confident with obstacle warnings and a reversing camera
  • You want a long range for days out
  • You like using an app and don’t mind a chair that gets software updates

It may not be the best use of your budget if:

  • You mostly use a powerchair indoors or for short trips
  • You need to tackle high kerbs, steep hills or muddy fields regularly
  • You’d rarely use the smart features

If that sounds like you, a more traditional powerchair could give you everything you need for less. We’d much rather you buy the right chair than the most expensive one.

Can I get help paying for it?

There are a few routes worth exploring:

  • VAT relief, if you’re eligible (see above)
  • The Motability Scheme, if you receive a qualifying mobility allowance. Ask us whether the EV1C is available this way.
  • Charities and grants, some of which help with the cost of mobility equipment
  • Access to Work, if you need a powerchair to get to or do your job
