What are the limitations of the RAYMEX® Lift?

The RAYMEX® Lift is a highly effective mobility and lifting aid that supports safer standing, walking, and transfers. It can significantly improve independence and reduce the risk of falls for many users. However, like any assistive device, it has some limitations that should be understood before use.

Knowing these limitations helps ensure the RAYMEX® Lift is used safely, appropriately, and in the right environments.

Weight and size limitations

The RAYMEX Lift has a defined maximum user weight of 136kg, set by the manufacturer based on safety testing and design limits. Exceeding this weight can affect performance and safety and may lead to damage or failure.

Its physical footprint can also be a limitation in very tight indoor spaces. Narrow hallways, small bathrooms, or cluttered rooms may restrict manoeuvrability.

Not suitable for all outdoor conditions

Although the RAYMEX Lift can be used outdoors, it is not designed for all external environments. It should not be used in wet weather, as rain and damp surfaces increase the risk of slipping and unsafe operation.

It is also unsuitable for particularly rough, uneven or muddy ground. The device performs best on dry, firm, and level ground.

Requires familiarisation

As with all mobility devices, safe and effective use of the RAYMEX® Lift requires a degree of practice and familiarisation. Users need to understand proper positioning, how to stand and sit with support, and how to move with the device confidently.

In many cases, guidance from a clinician or trained professional is recommended, particularly during initial use. When we deliver your RAYMEX® Lift, we always carry out a thorough training session so you’re confident in using it.

Not a direct replacement for strength or rehabilitation

The RAYMEX® Lift supports movement and stability, but it does not replace muscle strength, balance training, or rehabilitation exercises. It should be viewed as a supportive aid rather than a solution that restores physical ability on its own.

Ongoing exercise and mobility work, where appropriate and advised by a healthcare professional, remain important for long-term independence.

Not suitable for all medical conditions

Some medical conditions may make the RAYMEX® Lift unsuitable or require professional assessment before use. Severe balance disorders, uncontrolled dizziness, or certain cardiovascular conditions may increase risk if the device is used without clinical input. An individual assessment helps ensure the RAYMEX® Lift is appropriate for the user’s specific needs and abilities.

May not eliminate the need for carers

While the RAYMEX® Lift can significantly increase independence, it does not always remove the need for assistance from carers. Some users may still require support depending on their physical ability and other medical needs.

Summary

When matched to the right person, environment, and expectations, the RAYMEX® Lift is a highly effective aid that supports safer movement and greater confidence without unnecessary risk.
