How does the TurnAid enable single-handed care?

Single-handed care is becoming an essential approach in the community to maintain dignity, reduce strain on care agencies, and manage local authority resources effectively.

The TurnAid Patient Turning System is one of the most practical tools for making this approach safe and achievable. A powered turning system supports carers in completing repositioning, turning, and care tasks without needing a second pair of hands.

What the TurnAid system does

The TurnAid fits directly onto a profiling bed and uses a smooth, motor-driven slide sheet system to turn and repostion clients in bed. Instead of the manual pulling often required with traditional slide sheet systems, the system takes the weight and completes the movement while the carer supervises. This removes the physical effort that normally makes turning a task requiring at least 2 people.

With the TurnAid’s foot control, the carer can have both hands free to support the person throughout, so the carer can focus on safety and care rather than manual handling.

How does it reduce care packages?

With the need for manual pulling and repositioning significantly minimised, repositioning becomes a process that a single carer can often complete confidently. The need for a second carer to provide physical support is removed, which directly reduces staffing demands for routine tasks like repositioning, pressure relief, and personal care.

For local authorities implementing single-handed care, this also results in financial savings by reducing the need for expensive double-up care packages.

Benefits for clients and carers

Clients benefit from gentler, more dignified handling, as the TurnAid enables a smooth and comfortable turn. Carers benefit from a significant reduction in back strain and manual effort, lowering the risk of injury and fatigue.

Overall, the TurnAid makes single-handed care not only possible but efficient, consistent and safe in the community.
