How do dual motor riser recliner chair controls work?
You may have a rough idea of what a dual motor riser recliner chair does, but you’re still wondering: how exactly do these things work and are they easy to control?
So, let’s walk you through a step-by-step guide on how dual motor riser recliner chair controls work.
First, a quick reminder on what a dual motor riser recliner chair is. As the name suggests, it’s a riser recliner chair with two motors. One motor powers the backrest, and the other motor powers the legrest and rise function. Because the backrest and legrest operate independently of each other, you can choose from a wider range of reclined positions than with a single motor riser recliner.
So, how do you operate a dual motor riser recliner chair?
You will have a handset that is mounted onto a handset loop on either the left or right side of your riser recliner chair. On a dual motor riser recliner, this handset will typically have 4 buttons. The top two buttons control the backrest, and the bottom two buttons control the legrest and rise function. If you have a dual motor tilt-in-space mechanism with a 4-button handset, the bottom top buttons will control the tilt-in-space and rise function.
A good quality handset should be easy to use, with high contrast buttons that are easy to push, and on a strong cable that’s long enough to be accessible in any reclined position.
Dual motor handset variations
- Some dual motor handsets split the functions across 6 buttons and others may also have an On/Off button, a reset button, or an optional key lock.
- Some manufacturers offer an in-built control panel instead of a handset. These are more discreet but can be difficult to operate on a dual motor due to the distance you have to reach to use them when in a fully reclined position, for example.
- You can choose a remote control handset on some models of riser recliner chair. These tuck away discreetly when not in use – as long as you remember where you put it!
How to use a 4-button dual motor handset to rise and recline
1. Put your feet up
Press and hold Button 1 to raise the legrest. At its highest position, the legrest will be horizontal.
2. Recline the backrest
Press and hold Button 2 to recline the backrest. If reclined fully, the backrest will be at approximately 60 degrees.
3. Sit up
Press and hold Button 3 to bring the backrest back upright.
4. Stand up
Press and hold Button 4 to lower the legrest. Continue to press and hold to use the rise function to stand up.
5. Sit down
Start the rise and recline cycle again! Press and hold Button 1 to lower yourself into a sitting position. Continue to press and hold to raise the legrest.
What about finer adjustments? I hear you ask! You’re right, one of the biggest advantages of a dual motor riser recliner chair is the ability to tweak the backrest and legrest position so it’s just right! At any point in the rise and recline cycle, you can use the top two buttons to adjust the backrest, and the bottom two buttons to adjust the legrest.
A final note: these instructions are based on a handset for a standard dual motor riser recliner chair. Dual motor variations such as dual motor TIS will work slightly differently, which we cover in other guides.
If I’ve done a good job, you’ll now feel you understand how dual motor riser recliner controls work! For the most part, it takes a couple of goes to get the knack and you’re away. For some, a simpler single motor riser recliner is a better option. As always, we’d suggest your best option is to try some out and you, of course, very welcome to visit our showroom to do just that!
