How much does a stairlift cost in the UK? (Updated for 2025)

How much does a stairlift cost to install in 2025? This will always be one of the first questions anyone will ask when researching stairlifts, and that’s fine. After all, price matters! It’s not the only consideration, but it’s fairly important, and for many of us, it has a big influence over what products we choose.

At Felgains, we believe in educating every prospective buyer, even if that ultimately leads you towards a different supplier of stairlifts. So, in this article, I’ll do my best to outline the typical cost of a stairlift, looking at both straight and curved models, and explain to you what factors affect the price.

Flow X Curved Stairlift

How much does a straight stairlift cost in the UK?

As of 2025, the average cost of a new straight stairlift is between £1,800-£2,750. The price can vary, depending on the size and length of your staircase, and what options or accessories you choose to add.

At Felgains, we provide the HomeGlide Stairlift from Access BDD, which starts at £2,197 excluding VAT.

It’s good to know that if you purchase a straight or curved stairlift as a private individual or on behalf of a charity, you can pay the price excluding VAT by simply filling in a VAT exemption form.

How much does a curved stairlift cost in the UK?

As of 2025, the average cost of a new curved stairlift is between £5,000-£8,000.

We provide the Flow X Stairlift from Access BDD, which starts at £5,997 excluding VAT.

Again, this price can vary depending on the complexity of the layout of your staircase and what options or accessories are added.

Why are curved stairlifts so expensive?

While straight stairlifts are available in standard sizes, curved stairlifts have to be custom-made to fit your staircase. Because of this, curved stairlifts are typically more expensive than straight stairlifts.

Are there any ongoing costs to be aware of?

Apart from regular servicing and maintenance, there are no significant ongoing costs associated with having a stairlift in your home.

Based on 2025 energy prices, the electricity required to run a stairlift costs between £20 to £50 per year.

We recommend having your stairlift serviced annually, which costs £265 from Felgains for the stairlifts we provide.

Does a stairlift increase home value?

Fitting a stairlift in your home can have a positive impact on your house value, provided your future buyer has an interest in using the lift.

A stairlift can be a particularly desirable house feature if you live in an area with a higher-than-average age demographic, and especially if you live within a retirement community or village.

For some buyers, a stairlift may not be a desirable feature, so it can be good to point out that stairlifts are easily removable, to avoid putting off any prospective buyers.
