Description
The TurnAid Patient Turning System enables careful in-bed repositioning and turning of clients at the touch of a button.
The patient turning system enables nursing staff to reposition and turn the patient in a gentle and dignified manner, using a hands-off approach.
In addition, the TurnAid reduces strain on the back for nursing staff and family members during the repositioning of patients weighing up to 350kg. Excessive spinal loading and resultant back pain are significantly minimised.
The TurnAid system is easy to install on almost all community-style profiling beds, using appropriate adaptors where necessary. The basic functions of the bed are retained, and the system can be used together with pressure-relieving mattresses for rapid treatment of pressure damage.
With the TurnAid, mobilising in and out of bed is much easier for clients, thanks to the solid bars at the sides of the mattress.

What are the main benefits of the TurnAid Patient Turning System?
There are at least three main benefits to using the TurnAid patient turning system, for both the caregiver and the service user.
1. Improved well-being
Use of the TurnAid patient turning system enables a less intrusive ‘hands-off’ approach to repositioning, which boosts the dignity of the person in bed and can help reduce anxiety. The smooth, controlled motion and even distribution of pressure can also help by making repositioning more tolerable for individuals in severe pain.
And, as just one caregiver can operate the TurnAid, the turning system makes it easier for care agencies to improve consistency in care, and the one-to-one environment encourages a more personal connection between the individual and the caregiver.
2. Improved carer safety
Manually turning an individual in bed requires a high level of force, even when adhering to best practice guidelines. As such, back pain and other musculoskeletal disorders account for approximately 40% of all sickness absence in the NHS. Turning an individual using the TurnAid patient turning system completely eradicates the need for moving and handling, dramatically reducing the risk of carer injury.
3. Improved efficiency, with single-handed or reduced care
As previously mentioned, it only takes one pair of hands to turn an individual with the TurnAid system. The most obvious benefit to this for budget managers is the ability to stretch their human resources further to meet growing demand. It also helps slash costly care packages. Co-ordinators will also know that organising multiple carers to be in the same place at the same time can be challenging due to their incredibly busy schedules.
TurnAid vs Vendlet Patient Turning Systems: Key Differences Explained
There are 4 main differences between the TurnAid and the Vendlet Patient Turning Systems.
1. One system vs two
The Vendlet family consists of two systems: the V5S, with a safe working load (SWL) of 200kg, and the Vendlet Bari, with a SWL of 400kg. In contrast, the TurnAid system is one system, with a very large safe working load of 350kg. As such, there is no ‘bariatric version’ of the system, as the system is designed to cope with the vast majority of patient weights. This makes specifying the TurnAid simpler and reduces the cost.
2. Optional foot control
The TurnAid has a useful optional foot control panel. This frees up the carer to use both hands to assist with rolling and caring for the client, instead of having to use a hand control in one hand. The Vendlet systems are operated via hand control only.
3. Manual vs electric side roller bars
The Vendlet’s roller bars are electronically raised and lowered. In contrast, the TurnAid’s side bars are manually raised and lowered. While this may seem like a negative aspect of the system, the TurnAid sidebars are very easy to raise and lower, and the reduction of electronic components increases the reliability of the system when installed in the community.
4. More cost-effective
Finally, the TurnAid is a more cost-effective alternative to the Vendlet Turning Systems, making it easier for you to prescribe in the community.
