Ambulance Service, Raizer Chair, Isle of Man

Care Environment: Professional Care
Client: Isle of Man Ambulance Service
Location: Isle of Man

We purchased three of these Raizer chairs and they are all in service on frontline ambulances.

Benefits to the professional:

• Limited training needed before the professional can use the equipment.
• It reduces the potential of injury to the professional
• High degree of compliance because they are easy to use
• One charge provides in excess twenty lifts
• If the patient’s condition deteriorates the Raizer chair has the capacity to lower the patient quickly to the floor to enable prompt assessment and treatment
• It provides a way of limiting the handling of patients (who may be in discomfort)
• Easy to store in ambulances
• Equipment is no heavier then other lifting equipment available to do the same job

Benefits to the service:

• It reduces the potential of injury to the workforce
• Limited training needs before the equipment can be used safety
• Individual parts appear to be replaceable potentially cutting down on long term costs

Benefits to the patient:

• It provides a way of limiting the handling of patients (who may be in discomfort)
• Lifting the patients of the floor whilst maintaining their dignity, once fully upright it provides them with the opportunity of gaining their balance before mobilising

The Isle of Man Ambulance Service intends to have a Raizer chair on all front line Ambulances within the next three years.  Feedback from staff and patients has always been positive, with three patients taking the time to write letters of thanks to the Ambulance service.
