Local MP Dan Poulter visits Felgains to see how we are lifting the falls burden off ambulance services

Central Suffolk and North Ipswich MP Dr Dan Poulter has visited local NHS supplier Felgains to hear how their innovative falls response programme for care homes is relieving pressure on stretched ambulance services and hospitals this winter.

The Raizer Lifting Chair sits at the heart of a programme designed to empower care staff to identify falls they can safely respond to without calling the ambulance service.

Felgains presented data showing the first care homes to use this approach have achieved a 69% reduction in ambulance callouts to elderly falls, avoiding unnecessary A&E attendances and hospital admissions. This improves ambulance response times for the highest priority calls and drives better health outcomes across the system.

Member of Parliament for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, Dr Dan Poulter said: “I was pleased to visit Felgains and to learn more about how they are helping care homes to respond to falls, before having to resort to calling out an ambulance, with their innovative Raizer lifting chair.

“It’s good to see that Felgains have identified a credible solution to the very real challenge of ensuring older and more vulnerable people who fall over get the care they need. New initiatives such as this, which helps to prevent unnecessary visits to busy A&E departments, has the potential to benefit NHS and social care services.”

Felgains Managing Director Sam Webber said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Dr Dan Poulter to Felgains, where we discussed our plans to help commissioners across the country achieve better outcomes with our falls response programme for care homes and community response teams. We’d like to thank him for sharing valuable insights from his wealth of clinical experience.”
