September 30, 2025 North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust | ImageFlow Fluoroscopy Stretcher Background North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital and community health services to patients across Cumbria. In June 2025, the Trust opened a new, purpose-built endoscopy unit to expand its capacity and deliver high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic care for patients in the region. Ensuring the new unit was equipped with the right technology was a priority. The clinical team needed imaging equipment that would integrate seamlessly into their workflow and support staff and patient safety. Challenge In planning the new endoscopy unit, NCIC required a patient stretcher that would: Integrate smoothly with their C-arm Provide an ergonomic configuration to suit their clinical setup Enhance radiation safety for staff working in proximity to the C-arm Deliver long-term reliability to suit the busy environment As the unit was a new build, the Trust also needed to ensure the equipment was ready in time for the opening, with no compromise on clinical specifications. Solution NCIC chose Felgains as their partner, selecting the ImageFlow Stretcher to equip the new endoscopy unit. The Trust opted for a right-handed configuration of the U-shaped base to ensure the stretcher was fully compatible with their C-arm positioning. To further support staff safety, the stretcher was also specified with lead skirts, protecting against radiation exposure during procedures. Felgains worked collaboratively with the Trust’s project and clinical teams, ensuring the customised stretcher was delivered in time for the launch of the new unit. Key features of the ImageFlow: Sliding patient platform: Allows 490mm of horizontal movement, minimising the need to move patients or the C-arm. U-shaped base: Provides 1480mm of lateral C-arm access with no vertical clearance limit, facilitating unrestricted camera movement. Hydraulic & electronic adjustments: Easily adjustable hydraulic backrest and leg rest combined with electronic height adjustment and Trendelenburg functions. Very mobile: The ImageFlow doubles as a patient transport stretcher, which reduces the need for additional patient transfers. High safe working load: The high 320kg SWL is suitable for a broader range of patients, including heavier individuals. Stainless steel frame: Ensures durability and reliability in demanding hospital settings. Outcome The bespoke ImageFlow Stretcher is now in daily use within NCIC’s new endoscopy unit. Its tailored configuration has delivered several key benefits: Seamless integration with imaging equipment – the specialist stretcher ensures procedures can be carried out efficiently with the C-arm Improved staff safety – the inclusion of lead skirts significantly reduces radiation exposure for the clinical team Enhanced efficiency and reliability – the ImageFlow is robust, easy to use, and well-suited to the demands of a busy endoscopy service Feedback from the clinical team has been very positive, with staff highlighting the way the stretcher enhances both workflow and safety.
