The benefits of a pressure relief mattress for patients with limited mobility are well known, providing a comfortable bed while also reducing the risk of bed sores or pressure ulcers. These usually come as either a foam mattress that provides the most support, or a full alternating air pressure mattress that maximises pressure relief and stimulates blood flow.
Both of these have drawbacks – foam mattresses are not appropriate for the highest risk users, and alternating air mattresses often do not provide the comfort of a foam surface. This is where hybrid pressure relief mattresses come in – providing a mix between these two traditional mattress types – effectively the best of both.
